MIGRAINES...

Does anyone suffer from migraines? If so, what seems to trigger them...foods, smells, noise, etc.? How often do you have one? Do you get an aura with them? Do they run in your family? Do you take prescriptions meds for them?

I got a week-long migraine in January. I think it was because I went from a job where I was out and about (moving around a lot) to just sitting at a desk all day. The muscles in my shoulders and neck were tense all the time, and it finally escalated into a migraine.
It was horrible! The first night I literally got sick, which was the worst, but then it kept hanging around.
...
I had been doing cardio workouts only before that, but I added weights to my routine. Now, when my muscles get tense, I do upper body weights and it helps tremendously.

I have a friend that gets them occasionally. She'll disappear for a day or two, then come back fine. They don't come often, but when they do they wipe her out.

My migraines are triggered by stress. I don't see an aura, I usually know they are coming because the pain starts slowly and then I get the blurry vision. I've had them on and off since college, saw a neurologist back then and he said my college workload (engineering) probably had a lot to do with it. Now that I run, I don't get them as often, but when I do, they last a couple of days. I don't take meds for them either.

Oh, yes, I have migraines almost daily. I have had tests run, MRI- nothing found. This started about a year ago and we cannot figure out what triggered them. My dad when he was my age had a lot of headaches-not migraines. Yes, my primary physican is Dr. Collins at Baptist Northtown clinic. He has prescribed me, Topamax- actually a medication used to prevent seizures but is also is suppose to help prevent migraines. I also take Imitrex, 2 other meds in this same family. I also take Wellbutrin for stress. I have a 3 yr. old and a 6 yr. old, it gets hard with migraines. I also take a medication with codeine and caffeine mix. I will almost do anything to get through the day with some relief. My gyno presceibes me tylenol 3 because they are really extreme 4-5 days before I start my periods.

I have noticed that if I do not get enough rest, this tends to be a factor. Certain smells, will set them off. I am going to make an appointment with a chiropractor, as I was told this could really help. I hope this helps.

Lack of sleep, stress, and certain smells are migraine magnets. I's prescribed Amerge and I take it at the first sign of a migraine. It almost always helps. Maybe you haven't found the right one for you yet.

I woke up with one this morning and don't know what triggered it. I'm wondering if the change in weather was the cause...when all the bad weather came through. Does anyone have migraines with the change of weather?

I've had migraines since high school. They seem to start with a tightening in my shoulders and neck.
About 3 years ago my jaw popped out of socket. An orthodontist sent me to a physical therapist, who asked me how long had it been since I couldn't turn my head all the way to the side. I didn't even know there was a problem. The physical therapist began massaging my neck muscles. He gave me some neck exercises to do six times a day. After 2 months of therapy, I found I seldom have migraines.
The long term solution to my problem is heavenly. I must get a deep tissue massage on my neck any time I feel stress creeping in.

I have had migraines since I was around 11. They run on my mother's side of the family and we haven't been able to really narrow down a cause for mine because they are really random. I do have them more often when we have severe weather changes and when I am stressed about something, but sometimes they come on for no reason. I was prescribed Imitrex but it did not work for me. Then I went back to the doctor and he prescribed Relpax. I am on 40mg and it usually still takes about 2-3 hours before I can get back to what I was doing but that's much better than suffering for 10-14 hours like I used to!

I have horrible migraines. I see a headache specialist. I take Lyrica (150mg) each morning and each night. I still get them at least 2-3 times a week. When I do get them I take Relpax. That usually knocks them out, but then I am really tired. They just drain you of all you energy. I still have times where I have to go to bed and sleep it off.
Every month when it is "the time of the month" I get them 2-3 days before and it last for the entire time. But my OBGYN changed my birth control to Mirena. It stopped my periods and my headaches are much lighter during that time. Only 1 day and I can take my Relpax and it will go away.
I would highly suggest seeing a headache specialist. I went through a lot of drugs before I found the one that works, but it is worth it.

Sudden weather changes, bananas, onions, chocolate, liver (I love chicken livers),parmesean cheese, cigarette smoke and strong flowery smells--all migraine triggers. Some start with quick sharp pains usually over my eyes or tight muscles in the back of my neck. Relpax is my drug of choice. Works within 20 minutes. They usually come in cycles. I wish them on no one.

What are the side effects of Relpax? Is there a limit to how many you can take in a month?
