LEMON, ANYONE?

I don’t care for lemon in my tea and I’ve long thought that restaurants could save some money by simply asking first. I’m sure that they aren’t cheap.

Then I see a story about “lemon wedge bacteria.”

I kid you not.

A microbiologist tested 76 lemon wedges from 21 restaurants and found bacteria, including e. coli, in 70 percent of them. Yummy.

Dr. Philip Tierno, a germ expert at New York University Medical Center said unless someone has a weakened immune system the bacteria probably won’t hurt them. "I've been studying them for 40 years," he said. I hope he means bacteria and not lemons…that’d be a boring profession.

yeah someone fwd me the video link a couple of months back.

I have kind of always thought for years how unsanitary it is to have the lemon floating around in your drink, but I guess since no one has ever said anything about it, I just "tried" to ignore the thought; esp since I love lemons in my drink.
However, when I went to McAlisters today I declined the lemon (mostly b/c I know they just drop it in the drink as opposed to sticking it on the side of your cup).

I have gotten now where I will squeze the lemon and then discard it.

Wow that's disturbing. I always get lemon with my drink, but I won't if it's got E. Coli! Geez!

Well, you wash an apple but you never see anyone washing a lemon. And if bacteria is on the skin then it gets transferred to the inside when it's cut. I also thought about when we grate the peeling to use as lemon zest in recipes.
My Dad would dismiss news like this with a laugh and say, "you gotta die of something." Guess I'd prefer it not to be a lemon.

DUDE!!! WTH! DID YOU HEAR ME? Why even order if they are just going to bring whatever they want, right?

I've seen the email and video on this over the past couple of weeks. And I no ask for the lemon to NOT be on my drink when they bring it out.
