OFFENSIVE BILLBOARD?

Just got this in an e-mail. The color in the photo is off. The woman aren't blue...just regular flesh tone. Anyway, you get the idea. The question is...do you find it offensive?

Laser Lipo Billboard Offensive?
Mayor Of Madison Requests Billboard be Removed Immediately

Jackson, MS –March 5, 2008 - SOLA Laser Medi Spa in Ridgeland, MS is now offering Laser Lipo. The company has a billboard advertising this new procedure in Madison, MS on I-55 South. The Problem: Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler has requested that the billboard be removed immediately. Why? Apparently there have been complaints from members of the Madison community who say the content of the billboard is offensive.
Hess Marketing, SOLA’s marketing firm, has produced billboards similar to this one in other markets and the content as always been acceptable. The marketing firm has offered to compromise on the content of the billboard, however, Mayor Butler has not agreed to a compromise. The mayor has requested that the board be moved out of Madison completely. Attached is a picture of the billboard.

Laser Lipo is the latest technology in cosmetic surgery. Common areas of treatment include: inner and outer thighs, knees, the chin, abdomen, “love handles,” and upper arms. Traditional liposuction uses high-powered suction to indiscriminately rip out fat cells, along with other body tissues, such as collagen fibers and nerves. Laser Lipo’s cutting-edge technology, however, uses a small high-powered laser to precisely sculpt the area being treated. The laser’s thermal energy produces a tightening effect on the overlying skin, which reduces the need for invasive surgery to remove excess skin. The procedure takes 1-2 hours to perform and patients may resume normal activity, with the exception of strenuous exercise, the same afternoon.

Dr Adesola Shekoni received her medical degree from the University of Llorin Teaching Hospital in Nigeria in 1988. She later received her internship and residency in internal medicine at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, after which she became board certified in internal medicine.

Dr Shekoni gained extensive knowledge in weight management, which subsequently led her to the practice of aesthetics and lasers. She has a tremendous amount of experience in mesotherapy, lipodissolve and other drug delivery systems. She also performs Laser Lipo in addition to tumescence liposuction. Dr. Shekoni is a member of several associations.

I wouldn't want to see that on the roadside every day either. Good for the mayor. I'm sure they could find photos that are a little less "Playboy swimsuit edition" to get their message across.

And ... the pictures are misleading. I guarantee you, most (if not all) lipo patients won't come out looking like supermodels.

Though I don't find the billboard offensive (and I generally think that Mayor Mary treats Madison like a small dictatorship), I can almost guarantee that liposuction is not the only work these ladies have had done! Other areas seem to be unusually full, and unnaturally so, if you know what I mean!

I've seen ads like that for gyms, tanning places and other businesses.

First of all - what kind of message are they trying to send out to everyone? If you don't come to us - you won't look ever look like this? And seriously - who HONESTLY looks like the models in MS?? I think they should but total cost to look like this - 1 million dollars!!!

I wouldn't want to see it either. Being in the beauty industry, I am familiar with sex sells. However, Madison is a family oriented community and the playboy billboard, to me is played out. There are so many ways to sell products now without exposing your goods.

The billboard doesn't look much different than Hooters but you have to applaud Mayor Mary from having a vision and sticking to it.
